Hot Tips for Top
Website Rankings
Promoting your Website to the top
of the major search engines can either make or break a site on
the Internet. When you see your competition at the top of every
search term that pertains to your site, that's where you begin.
It's like being a detective of sorts. Your competitor's site
has been placed at the top of listings for a reason. And the
most probable reason being is its keyword content. Find out what
the best keywords are. Put yourself in your customer's shoes.
If your were a customer trying to locate "widgets"
on the Internet or in the YellowPages, what words would you use?
It is important to use relevant keywords in your titles, metatags,
filenames, and content.
In
general, no human employed by the search engines ever comes around
to look at your site. A computer program, called a spider, or
robot looks at only the TEXT on your site. These spiders are
set up with a complex set of algorithms (the way they are told
to look at a page). The engineers that work for the search engines
set these algorithms. They are all different, however, there
are some common factors. These algorithms are trade secrets and
they are very difficult to get a grasp of. And each one changes,
some more frequent than others. It takes a lot of time, research
and effort to even get a basic idea of what each search engine
spider is looking for.
One
very important
thing to know about robots is that they cannot read Frame Based
Sites and for the most part can't read Java Scripts. However,
there are some ways to "get around" these obstacles.
If your site is framed based, make sure you insert No Frame Tags,
to redirect the robot or spider. If you use Java Scripts, make
sure that your metatag descriptions are placed before the Java
Scripts.
