Inktomi is not a search engine! Inktomi is a database. Simply, what this means is that Inktomi has set up a company that spiders and indexes web pages, stores them in a database and then rents this list of web pages out to anyone willing to pay the price. A lot of companies are willing to pay Inktomi to store and retrieve the pages they require for their search engines.
 
Inktomi boasts of having over 200 million pages in their index. Here is a list of a few of the search engines powered by Inktomi: Yahoo, HotBot, Snap, Anzwers, Canada.com, CNET, Swiss Search, Geocities, eHOLA, Goprofit, GoTo, iAtlas, ICQ Inc, N2H2, Quepasa!com, StarMedia and 4anything.com.
 
The list just seems to keep growing considerably. You can be assured that if a company is paying Inktomi's price then they are serious about having a presence on the Internet in the form of a search engine. So you understand that it is important to get your site into their database.
 
Here are some tips on achieving a high ranking in the Inktomi database. However, we run into problems because each "partner" of Inktomi has a different set of algorithms. But once again there are some generic things that you can do to ensure at least a reasonable chance of getting a decent ranking here. Make sure you use whatever search terms you can in the title tag and also in your description. Make good use of Meta keyword tags but make sure you do not over repeat your keywords in this tag. Use your keywords and phrases as often as possible in the text on your page. Use Alt Image tags and Comment Tags to get in a few more occurrences of your keywords. Do not use same colored or small text as this is considered a spam technique and will get you penalized or thrown out completely. Make sure that if your site is designed with frames that you use the "NOFRAMES" tag and put the text you want the spider to see in this tag.
